Team Everheart Mission 7 Part 8

Xavier huffed through his nose as he ran through the foliage, unable to pant through his mouth, knowing that he had the letter clamped in his teeth. Behind him, he could hear the soft sound of paws padding against the dirt.

Rosco wasn't very close behind, but he wasn't very far, either.

As the Shiny Zorua broke through the bushes, he saw that he was now in a small clearing. Anxious and frantic, he looked around, hoping to find a place to hide, soon. Rosco was closing in.

He looked to the hollow log, and he figured that was as good as anything, so without hesitation, he scampered inside, put the letter down, and sat still and quiet. Just in time, too.

Rosco entered the clearing, looking around intently. He took a whiff of the air before he began to search.

Xavier watched through the crack in the log with wide, scared eyes. Oh, how he hoped he didn't find him! Please, dear Arceus, don't let him find him!

"Come out, come out, wherever you are~!" Rosco called in a playful singsong manner. "I know you're here, somewhere~!"

No way, Xavier thought.

When Rosco started searching around the log, that's when the little fox really started to get scared. He pushed himself into whatever corner he could find, trying not to make any noise that would give him away.

"All right, you little runt," said Rosco. "My patience is running out!"

Xavier swallowed the lump in his throat when he saw Rosco sit down on his haunches...right in front of the only way out!

"You can't hide forever," the Persian said. "You'll have to show yourself, eventually."

Xavier gasped silenly. Now what was he going to do?!

Papa...where are you? he thought.
